The Wirral Safeguarding Children Board (WSCB) offer a programme of safeguarding training.
All of our training is multi-agency and is currently offered free of charge to any member of the children’s workforce. Attendance at safeguarding training will help ensure all professionals are competent and confident to deliver effective services to safeguard children and young people. Multi-agency training helps to improve your knowledge of safeguarding issues, including child protection processes. It also aims to improve communication and promote better decision-making.
“Research has shown that inter-agency training is highly effective in helping professionals understand their respective roles and responsibilities, the procedures of each agency involved in safeguarding children and in developing a shared understanding of assessment and decision-making practices. Further the opportunity to learn together is highly valued; participants report increased confidence in working with colleagues from other agencies and greater mutual respect”.
(Carpenter et al 2009)

To help professionals and agencies to decide what might be appropriate courses to attend the safeguarding board has developed a Multi-Agency Training Competency Framework which should be referred to by a professionals and their line manager to judge whether the course is appropriate for them prior to course applications being made. The framework and details can be found here: https://www.wirralsafeguarding.co.uk/training-competency-evaluation/
