Support for Schools & Colleges in meeting Digital Technology Standards – Department for Education
Schools and colleges have been working towards six core digital technology standards since 2022, broadband, wireless networks, network switching, digital leadership and governance, filtering and monitoring, and cyber security. Since the start of this academic year, the DfE’s expectations have sharpened, with the 2025 Academy Trust Handbook now using explicit language requiring trusts to be actively working towards meeting all six by 2030.
For DSLs, filtering and monitoring and cyber security sit squarely within the safeguarding landscape, not just the technical one. The DfE’s free ‘Plan Technology for Your School’ service is a good starting point for any setting that hasn’t yet assessed where it stands.
