Free Public Event : Ketamine and how it is affecting our communities. 7th July 6-8pm at Start Yard

Wirral Council’s Public Health Team invites residents and professionals to a free event focused on understanding ketamine use and how it’s affecting people in our communities. The event will take place in the evening of Monday 7th July.

We’ll explore the impact this emerging issue is having on individuals and families, whilst highlighting the outstanding support that is available to those affected. Whether you’re personally impacted, supporting someone else, or working in a professional role, this session is a safe and welcoming space to learn more and connect with local services.

The event will include expert speakers from our partner organisations including Wirral Ways (Adult Drug and Alcohol Service), Response (Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Service), Spider Project CIC (Creative Recovery and Abstinence Based Service) and Birchwood (Drug and Alcohol Detox and Rehabilitation Centre).

The evening will cover:

  • The context of ketamine use on the Wirral – learn about the scale of ketamine use locally and how we are responding to this issue.
  • Ketamine use and recovery – understand the journey to recovery, including stories of lived experience of ketamine addiction and recovery.
  • Ketamine awareness spotlight – learn about ketamine, the harms it can cause, and support services available.
  • Liverpool’s experience of ketamine use in Merseyside – hear how our colleagues across the water are responding and what we’ve learnt from their work and experience.
  • Harm reduction advice and support for families affected by ketamine – understand how to support those experiencing ketamine harms and meet the teams who support affected families.
  • Opportunity to ask questions to the panel – talk to our experts, help answer any questions and quash any myths.

Doors open at 5:30pm with the event starting at 6pm. We have a full and informative programme planned, so we kindly encourage attendees to arrive on time to make the most of the session. This event is suitable for those aged 16 and above, however under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
