Ariel Trust Resources – Autumn 2025 Training Opportunities

Ariel Trust is offering your school FREE access to a suite of online staff training and resources aimed at equipping children with the skills necessary to resist the processes associated with grooming, radicalisation, and exploitation. These resources offer age-appropriate materials tailored for primary aged pupils.

Thanks to the funding from the Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership, the online training and resources are available free to Merseyside primary schools. After participating in the training, schools will gain complete access to the online resources for use with pupils.

KS1 New Resource – Telling Tales or Asking for Help

Telling Tales or Asking for Help explores the topic of how to ask for help in the best way. This resource aims to develop help seeking behaviours in children from an earlier age, in order to protect children and equip them to deal with uncomfortable or potentially dangerous situations, such as grooming and online dangers. The resource has been trialled in primary schools over the spring and summer term.

The story explores the theme of bullying instead of grooming itself, to ensure age appropriateness for Key Stage 1. Activities cover how and when to ask for help, what language to use, the difference between telling tales and asking for help, and how to deal with emotions, as well as the role of a bystander and active listening. We use a combination of games, freeze frames, roleplays, and forum theatre, to get the children actively practising their skills.

Online training dates available:

Monday 22nd September 3.30-4.30pm

or

Monday 13th October 3.30-4.30pm

KS2 New Resource – Knock at the Door

Children sharing indecent images with one another is a crime and a growing issue for schools across Merseyside. Ariel Trust is therefore launching a new programme to help teachers talk about what the law says and how it can impact upon the lives of children and their families.

At the heart of this programme is a new film, “The knock at the door”. This film features a group of children and their parents and seeks to explore their reactions when the police knock at the door. It was made with parents and children from a primary school in St Helens and reflects the experience of year 6 teachers dealing with this issue as part of a school day.

Using an evidence-based approach this new intervention is designed to improve communication between children, their parents, and their teachers.

Online training dates:

Tuesday 23rd September 3.30-4.30pm

or

Thursday 16th October 3.30-4.30pm

Knock at the Door Parental Engagement

Focusing on our new resource ‘Knock at the Door’ which is a continuation of our ‘Send Me A Selfie’ resource. This time, we look at what happened if the images are sent and they become inappropriate, resulting in the police getting involved.

We will explore how the new resources can successfully be delivered, showing evidence of this in action and examples from a real parental engagement workshop documented through training videos, to use as a guide when delivering the resources with parents.

We discuss things such as, structuring workshops, balancing the dynamics of the group, and how you can encourage parental participation.

Please note this session is only available to schools that have already completed the ‘Knock at the Door’ training above.

Online training date:

Monday 3rd November 3.30-4.30pm

KS2 Grassing or Grooming

Grassing or Grooming focuses on criminal gangs and asks pupils to practice skills they can use to resist the tactics that those gangs use to groom children. By using these resources as part of a coherent programme, pupils can be offered an opportunity to practice and hone skills that they can use to identify risks and adopt strategies to minimise those risks.

Online training dates available:

Monday 6th October 3.30-5.00pm

KS2 Send Me A Selfie (Skills for Healthy Relationships)

We have recently launched a new Send me a Selfie website, containing additional content designed to help you develop children’s refusal and resistance skills more effectively. Send Me A Selfie tackles the issues arising from the sharing of images online. The animation and supporting lessons allow pupils to focus on the pressure they might feel to share images and the consequences if they do. Pupils will explore issues about consent and practice refusal skills, how to say no if they feel pressure to share something with which they are not comfortable.

We have employed a team of theatre practitioners who will provide you with step-by-step instructions, showing you how forum theatre can be employed in your classroom.

Online training date:

Thursday 9th October 3.30-5.00pm
