Wirral Safeguarding Children Partnership publishes Annual Report 2025/26
The Wirral Safeguarding Children Partnership (WSCP) has published its Annual Report for 2025/26, providing an overview of safeguarding activity, partnership achievements, learning and future priorities across Wirral.
The report demonstrates how safeguarding partners have continued to work together in the context of rising demand, growing complexity of need and the introduction of national reforms through the Families First for Children Pathfinder Programme. Despite these challenges, the report concludes that safeguarding arrangements across Wirral remain effective and continue to strengthen.
Highlights from the report include:
- Progress in implementing the Families First for Children Programme and Multi-Agency Child Protection Team.
- Continued development of Systemic Practice across the children’s workforce.
- Education becoming more fully embedded within safeguarding governance and assurance arrangements.
- Enhanced multi-agency learning, audit and quality assurance activity.
- Greater involvement of children and young people in influencing safeguarding practice and partnership priorities.
- Development of a new outcomes-focused approach designed to strengthen how the partnership measures impact for children and families.
The report also reflects learning from safeguarding reviews, audits, child death reviews and participation activity. This has informed the partnership’s priorities for 2026-2028, which focus on Domestic Abuse, Neglect, Child Sexual Abuse and Early Help, alongside an ongoing commitment to workforce development, participation and continuous improvement.
Independent Safeguarding Scrutineer Dr Andy Gill notes within the report that while the partnership has strengthened the foundations for effective safeguarding, future assurance activity must focus increasingly on demonstrating the difference that safeguarding arrangements make to children’s lives.
The annual report reflects the collective commitment of safeguarding partners to ensuring that children, young people and families remain at the centre of everything the partnership does.
