We Speak Up : International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

The 16 Days of Action for Violence Against Women and Girls campaign starts on 25th November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and concludes on 10th December, International Human Rights Day.

These 16 days provide a dedicated period for advocacy and action and starts on White Ribbon Day on 25th November

The White Ribbon Campaign began in Canada in 1991, founded by men who wanted to speak out against men’s violence toward women. They work throughout the year with individuals and organisations to intervene before harmful attitudes and behaviours towards women and girls can take place, developing allyship in men and boys because all men have a role to play in preventing and ending violence against women and girls.

The campaign seeks to address and combat gender-based violence, which disproportionately affects women and girls, and marginalised communities. The campaign emphasises the need for gender equality, the eradication of violence against women and girls, and the protection of human rights.

The Wirral Domestic Abuse Hub will be hosting a series of events over this 16 day period and have a White Ribbon Walk to raise awareness of violence against women and girls.

The walk will take place on Wednesday 10th December 2025, from 2pm to 5pm from Birkenhead Park Visitor Centre.
