Child Sexual Abuse and Intrafamilial Sexual Abuse Training

The WSCP are offering 3 multi-agency training events looking at the challenges of working with children who have been, or are at risk of sexual abuse.

Please note the nature of the material can be upsetting and professionals should ensure they are aware of their own well-being when signing up to attend.

SARC (Sexual Assault Referral Centre) Spotlight Session

Hosted by the SARC Nurse Manager, the session will include the following objectives:

  • The different forms Child Sexual Abuse and the impact of abuse
  • Why children do not disclose Child Sexual Abuse
  • Professionals’ response to Child Sexual Abuse
  • The holistic role of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and referrals into the Centre
  • Timeline of the Forensic Medical and what is involved
  • Follow up care and the importance of Patient Experience and Trauma Informed working

Sexual Abuse Awareness Training

Delivered as a half day event on Teams this awareness raising session is designed to increase professionals confidence in recognising and responding to child sexual abuse.

The session will cover the following objectives:

  • Understand what we mean by child sexual abuse and its different forms
  • Consider the prevalence of child sexual abuse and the impact
  • Recognise who abuses and why
  • Discuss the barriers for children and professionals
  • Responding to child sexual abuse

Intrafamilial Child Sexual Abuse – An Introduction for Professionals Working Directly with Children and Young People

This one day face to face course is designed as an introduction to intrafamilial child sexual abuse for professionals working with children and families. Attendees will be helped to understand the scale of child sexual abuse, the impact of abuse, the challenges and obstacles in practice, and the signs and indicators.
