What is a MASH?
A Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, or MASH is a multi-agency team co-located team of key safeguarding agencies designed to provide quick and accurate identification of safeguarding risks to children, young people and adults.
The Wirral MASH enables the multi-agency team to use their own systems to check for information about individuals and to then share relevant information within a confidential and secure environment to ensure the most appropriate response is provided.
The MASH facilitates the free flow of information and intelligence between statutory agencies in order to enhance the opportunities to safeguard vulnerable children and adults.

The Powerpoint presentation from the recent MASH briefings is available below for use within Wirral partner agencies.
Principles of the Wirral MASH
The MASH operates under 3 core principles:
- That information exchange supports enhanced decision making by operational staff which provides all agencies with improved safeguarding opportunities.
- The fundamental objective of this model for information sharing is that relevant material owned by the participating agencies can be revealed to the other. This can be achieved in an unfettered and uninhibited process providing all are signed up to the confidentiality and usage process within this agreement.
- That the constituent personnel are suitably trained and familiar with their agencies policies and procedures and able to practically apply them and to make decisions with a recorded and structured rationale.
Referrals into the MASH are made through the Central Advice and Duty Team (CADT). Contact details for CADT and the multi-agency request for services referral form are available below:
