Whole Staff Safeguarding Virtual Training

Welcome to the Virtual Whole Staff Safeguarding Training. This session is best suited for staff that may have moved setting, need to refresh their basic safeguarding knowledge or have missed their whole setting training.

On this page and in the accompanying virtual training we will provide staff who are working with children and families with an understanding of:

■The different types of abuse, possible signs and symptoms, and how to respond when a child discloses possible abuse;
■The safeguarding agenda for schools/colleges/settings and the wider legislation and referral processes;
■Key roles and responsibilities and what to do if you are concerned about a child.

What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding is the ‘action that is taken to promote the  welfare of children and protect them from harm’ this includes:

  • Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
  • Preventing harm to children’s health or development
  • Ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.

Why is safeguarding children is so important?

The latest version of Keeping Children Safe In Education (Sept 2019) re-iterates the widescale message that ‘safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all practitioners should make sure their approach is child-centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child’

No single practitioner can have a full picture of a child’s needs and circumstances. If children and families are to receive the right help at the right time, everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action.

PLEASE NOTE: Each session will last no more than 1.5 hours, including Q&A time. To attend a virtual session click on the link below of the session you wish to attend:
