Child Sexual Exploitation – Awareness Raising
Tackling child sexual exploitation is a top priority for the Wirral Safeguarding Children Board and the partnership.
A number of high profile cases have highlighted the need for vigilance from all of us, and not just those in statutory safeguarding services. We all need to be more aware of the signs of child sexual exploitation (CSE) and identify children and young people who are at risk.
Awareness Raising Information for Child Sexual Exploitation
The Merseyside safeguarding children boards in partnership with Merseyside Police have developed a website dedicated to raising awareness of child sexual exploitation. The www.listentomystory.co.uk website is a ‘one stop shop’ for information and advice about Child Sexual Exploitation whether you are a professional, child or young person, parent or carer, or a member of the public.
Access to Free e-Learning
PACE (Parents Against Sexual Exploitation) is an organisation who primarily work with parents whose children are victims of, or at risk of being sexually exploited. PACE also provides information, support and training for professionals. PACE have developed a free to access e-learning module about Child Sexual Exploitation which is useful for parents, professionals and members of the wider community to understand Child Sexual Exploitation and become more aware of the signs. Information and Resources for Taxi Drivers
The Wirral Safeguarding Children Board (WSCB) delivers a Child Sexual Expoitation awareness raising briefing to taxi drivers and all newly qualified taxi drivers attend a briefing as part of their induction. Taxi drivers and other workers who are visible in the ‘night time’ economy are well placed to identify children and young people who may be at their most vulnerable. The WSCB has developed a simple leaflet for taxi drivers which details common signs of CSE and what taxi drivers should do if they have concerns about a young person.

Information and Resources for Licensed Premises and Hotels
Staff who work in licensed premises and hotels are similarly well placed to identify children and young people who are vulnerable to being sexually exploited. The WSCB has published a leaflet for licensees and one for hoteliers which shows the signs and symptoms of sexual exploitation, what to look out for and how to report concerns.
